Guest：The George Hotel - you did it again! Another super visit and can't wait for the next one. Fabulous food, incredibly enthusiastic and helpful Staff throughout the hotel. With regard to the new parking arrangements, we were unaware of this but the super Ladies on Reception talked us though the system but would be concerned if arriving for Luncheon and having a 2 hour time limit - hopefully our Postie won't be delivering a fine notice!! Special mention for the fabulous Housekeeping team who manage to keep the Hotel in such an immaculate state. Not an easy task when the numbers using this fine establishment daily. As ever, highly recommended.
Guest：We stayed one night and attended the burns night dinner. The prices are eye watering but if the service, accommodation and food are worth it, I am happy to pay for it. However, I'm afraid the George is living on it's name and wonderful location. The room was spacious but needs urgent updating as it's very shabby. The lighting is poor and there was no fridge or tea and coffee making facilities. We had a drink at the bar and had a beef sandwich which was reasonable, but at ￡16 for a sandwich, I expect fabulous. The burns night appeared to be well attended but that resulted in very poor service. The Staff did their best, but they couldn't cope. The wine arrived half way through the meal and this was due to the fact that a wine list seems hard to find. In fairness, the food was decent, particularly the venison wellington. You can get tea and coffee in the room before breakfast which is included but if you have it delivered at any other time you will pay ￡12 for the privilege. We did mention that we were disappointed not to have tea and coffee in the room when checking out but the attitude was that this is how we do things and we were the first to mention it. However, having looked at other reviews, this is certainly a common complaint. I would suggest the George should take a long look at how the Grosvenor Hotel in Chester does things. A historic hotel in a fabulous location with excellent service, wonderful food and although not cheap, far better value for money than the George.
Guest：We recently stayed for 2 nights to celebrate our 2nd Wedding Anniversary at this delightful old hotel. We received a very genuine warm welcome from the team at the reception desk. ?They organised a hall porter to collect and take our luggage up to our room on the second floor. ?This quaint hotel is very old and doesn’t have any lifts. ?Our room was beautifully softly furnished and comfortable with a lovely big high bed. ?It was very quiet as we requested, with views across the town rooftops. There are a number of public areas to choose from to relax and enjoy in the comfortable big chairs. ?The hotel understands their customers' needs to the point of always of having staff posted at key positions to ensure they can spot the needs and be on hand to guide and direct guests. ?All of the staff take great delight in providing a cheerful and happy service. ?They clearly enjoy their hospitality roles. Breakfast was served in a beautiful Garden Room with trees and copious numbers of orchids with nature light from an atrium glass ceiling. ?A lovely fresh feel creates a wonderful ambiance to enjoy their very delicious breakfasts from a good range of dishes on the menu to delight everyone. We strongly recommended this hotel.
Guest：Having been visiting the George for the last 50+years since I was a child, it was a disappointment this visit and the previous one a few months ago. It used to be welcoming and staff were attentive. It was a real treat to call in for coffee and meal in the past. But with now only 90 minutes allowed to park one’s car it is no longer a place to meet old friends who have not seen each other for a good while. In 90 minutes we have only just got going with nattering and it is just not long enough. Time to find a new meeting place in the area where we will feel welcome. A sign of the times I feel, tradition has been lost and feeling hurried in such a lovely place has ruined the treat! ????
