Guest：For those who are not used to reading long reviews, I will say it briefly. This ?Mango Roots? Inn is very good. Not five star 5* of course. But my rating out of 10 is 10+. Just stay there for a night. And you will not regret. And, here below is my full review. With all the details. I hope it will be useful to someone who will read to the end of my response. “Mango Roots” - no, this is definitely not a five-star 5* hotel. It is without a multi-stores building with elevators, without huge illuminated and heated swimming pools, without crowds of tourists and without peacocks on the territory. However, this is precisely its advantage. This hotel (it would be better to call it a Guest House) is an ideal overnight stay for tourists arriving in Sri Lanka late in the evening or at night. And/or flying early in the morning. ?Mango Roots? Hotel is a very small, family-run guest house, located just 30 km from Baranaike Airport in Negombo town, (near Colombo city), on the road east to the center of the island. Instead of being tired after a long flight, continue to torment yourself with a sleepless night and get to your destination by taxi, bus or train (in the direction of Kandy, Nuvara-Eliya, Trincomalee resorts in the northeast of the island, etc. .) – it is much better to immediately stop overnight near the airport, rest until the morning, and continue on your way with fresh strength. And - the same in the opposite direction. If you have a return flight from Sri Lanka early in the morning, you have an alternative. Whether you spend 5-6-7 hours on the road the day before after lunch, then sit all night at the waiting area of the airport, and, finally, in the morning, already extremely tired, board a plane and spend another 8-10 hours in flight. OR - arrive the day before in the afternoon or in the evening in Veyangoda, stay overnight at the ?Mango Roots? hotel (guest house), and fly back home the next morning fresh. September 2023. In fact, that is what we did. And now a few words about this hotel from the point of view of experienced tourists and for future tourists to Sri Lanka. The hotel is located in a quiet area of the small town of Veyangoda, only about 30 km from the airport, on a narrow street, 300m from the main street passing through the city. You cannot hear any noise from the traffic at all. Especially at night. The name of this guesthouse “Mango Roots” was historically chosen for a reason. Because on the territory of the small courtyard of the hotel there actually grows a real, spreading old mango tree with huge roots (at least 50-60 years old?), which still bears mango fruits several times a year. There are two small houses in the yard. One is where the hotel owner and his family live (more on them later). And in the second (guest) house there is a dining room and several rooms for tourists. The rooms are small. Double bed, desk, bathroom with shower and toilet. Air conditioner. The decor is quite modest, no frills, but everything is clean
Guest：We had a lovely night at Mango roots. Eranda welcomed us and made some tea and freshly sliced mangos from the mango tree in their garden. For dinner we had kottu which was really good. Eranda and Anusha invited us in their home to spend some time with them and their triplets. The triplets were really cute and we had a lovely time there. If you look for a nice homestay, you should defenitely visit mango roots. The room is good, the food is very good, the mangos from their tree are amazing and Eranda and Anusha are also amazing. Defenitely worth your time and money.
Guest：We were able to secure accommodation here very spontaneously and on short notice (due to our child being sick). We were warmly welcomed, and the lady of the house prepared a truly wonderful traditional lunch for us, taking special care of our sick child. It was a very appreciative and helpful experience! The breakfast was also amazing. When we continued our journey by train, we received great support and even some helpful tips. The rooms are small but definitely sufficient — the perfect stopover. What we particularly want to highlight: The amazing food — so authentic and delicious! And the incredible support we received!
Guest：Our stay at Mango Root was absolutely amazing! The room was exceptionally clean and decorated with great attention to detail. We were especially impressed by the modern and newly renovated bathroom – a true highlight, as there were no humidity issues whatsoever, which can often be a problem in Sri Lanka, especially in bathrooms. The air conditioning, provided drinking water, and carpeted floor made our stay even more comfortable. While the carpet might not be ideal for pet owners, we found it perfect for sitting on the floor in the evenings while our son was peacefully sleeping. The covered terrace in front of the house is another great feature – ideal for relaxing outside, even during the rain. The absolute highlight of Mango Root, however, is the host family. Anusha, Eranda, their three adorable triplets, and the helpful uncle won our hearts with their warmth and kindness. Our son was overjoyed when we got to visit them twice in the evenings. While the children played together, we enjoyed a delicious, authentic Sri Lankan dinner and had inspiring conversations. Getting a glimpse into the daily life of this wonderful family deeply touched us. Despite the challenges they face, they maintain such a positive outlook on life, which left a lasting impression on us. Initially, we had planned to stay for just one night, but we ended up extending our stay for another night because we felt so comfortable and welcomed. A heartfelt thank you to Anusha, Eranda, the lovely children, and the kind uncle for this unforgettable experience. We wish you all the best and hope to return one day!
